The Charge of the Light Brigade Essay example -- English Literature

The Charge of the fire up BrigadeWar poetry is a theme that has inspired realityy poets. Compare andcontrast numberss by 2 poets from different eras and cultures. Say which single you prefer and why.The two poems and the poets that I am going to look at are The Chargeof the Light Brigade written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson and Dulce ETDecorum Est. Pro Patria Mori by Wilfred Owen. The first poem was written during the reign of Queen Victoria inEngland. During this time the Victorians as the pot were called hada very religious outlook on life. The account was written by the poetbecause it was such a bad battle that the government couldnt let the bulk see that it had made a great mistake and so it commissionedTennyson to write the poem saying what a wonderful battle it had been.It was a call up.The second poem was written by Wilfred Owen while he was on activeservice during the First World War. He was a young man and was againstthe terrible waste of life the First World War caused. He believedthis was due to bad leadership by the generals. Wilfred Owen was ableto experience the war as it really was whereas Tennyson never actuallysaw the battle he was writing about. Owenss poem was written becausehe was in the war and wants to tell you what it was desire in the warI am going to write about The Charge of The Light Brigade which isabout the Crimean War which was fought between Russia on the one handand Britain France and Turkey on the other. The charge of the lightbrigade occurred in November 1854 at Balaclava in the Crimea. Thebrave six hundred rode straight shovel in a valley that was fortified atits end by many cannon served by Russian and Cossack gunners. Theheroes were following confus... ...nces between the two poems are that in one the poet issaying that the war could not have gone any better, and the poem istelling you that the war was the worst one ever. Also The Charge ofthe Light Brigade has a galloping rhythm all most all the waythrough the poem. In the Dulce ET Decorum EST Pro Patria Mori poemthere is no writ large rhythm to this poem and in fact the slow pace ofthe poem makes us think of the soldiers trudging through the muddytrenches. One was involved in bit but Tennyson was simply writing about anevent hed read about and was against the cruelty and waste of lifewar brought whereas Tennyson wanted people to feel that war washonourable worthwhile and necessary. I prefer Dulce et Decorum est. asit is more realistic and makes me feel sorry for the men in the poem.Tennyson poem does not give a true account of the war.
